In honor of Earth Day weekend, Dori Langevin is offering the first in a series of foundational trainings in mindfulness meditation – Embodied Presence: Mindfulness of Body.
Our capacity to hold our bodies, others’ bodies, and the body of the Earth as sacred are intimately intertwined. Embodied presence cultivates balance and resiliency as we learn to “surf the waves” of strong mental and emotional experience.
What is mindfulness meditation? Mindfulness meditation is a systematic body-heart-mind training to cultivate a wise and compassionate relationship with inner and outer life. By practicing present-centered non-judgmental awareness of sensations, thoughts and emotions we can develop an embodied and open-hearted presence that naturally flows into our relationships and into the world. The Buddha’s teachings are grounded in non-harming, so we do not practice solely for our benefit, but rather for the well-being of all life everywhere.
Open to everyone: This is designed as an introduction, so no prior meditation experience is necessary. Those of you who are experienced with meditation may feel a boost to your practice and other benefits from meditating and sharing with others. Mindfulness meditation can be congruent with any spiritual orientation. This Part One series (or equivalent experience approved by Dori) will be the pre-requisite for Part Two: The Awakened Heart: Mindfulness of Emotions (offered at a later date at AYS).
What to expect: The three-hour workshop will include teachings, meditation instruction and practice in movement and stillness, and group discussion. Evening classes will include guided stillness & movement practices and discussion.
Full Series: $75 (regular rate) or $65 (AYS member rate)
Workshop only: $45
3 Evening classes only: $45
